The Duchess of Cambridge is going to fly solo this fall when she makes her first trip overseas without Prince William, though it’s unclear whether or not Prince George will accompany his mum overseas or stay behind with his father and nanny. This will be Kate Middleton’s first royal tour overseas without the Prince, whom she usually accompanies on their travels. However, reports recently surfaced stating that the Duke is slated to begin his new job as a helicopter pilot with the air ambulance and will not be able to travel with his wife.

While palace officials have not confirmed Kate’s solo trip, saying only, “We will announce any overseas trip in due course,” the media in Malta are reporting the news with regularity. The trip is said to occur in September, when she will head to Malta to help the small Mediterranean island celebrate 50 years of independence. While this will be her first trip overseas alone, it’s not her first time on a royal excursion by herself. The Duchess of Cambridge makes plenty of solo visits to different locations around the United Kingdom, and even takes on solo tours in other countries. Most recently, the Duchess visited a hospice in New Zealand on her own.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were in New Zealand in April when the Duke was scheduled for an event at the same time, so the Duchess took on the hospice alone. The 32-year-old Duchess is preparing to celebrate the first birthday of her only child, Prince George this summer, which is just one more first she can add to her long list of firsts as a royal. If the trip is true, fans of Kate Middleton will have something to look forward to; days worth of public appearances in which they can take tips from the Duchess’ style and buy out designer dresses and shoes within minutes.
